So this weekend I went snowboarding at Tahoe with one of my coworkers, Paul, and his girlfriend Heather. We left San Francisco at 5:30pm on Friday and arrived at the cabin in Kings Beach 8 hours later, a record time for them. The drive was fun since we talked about our favorite movies and our favorite music. I found out that Paul listens to a lot of the same music as me, such as Jimmy Eat World, New Order, Death Cab for Cutie, and other Rock, 80s, and indie rock bands. When we arrived at the cabin, we basically just slept so we could get ready for the next day.
The cabin was amazing. It had two bedrooms upstairs and two bedrooms downstairs, each bedroom with enough beds to fit about 4 people. It had a carpeted living room with tv, sofa, dvd player, cable, and a nice cozy atmosphere. The kitchen had all the amenities you could imagine: silverware, pots, pans, dishes, spices, dry food, and more. The bathroom also had shampoo, conditioner, and soap. It was like a cabin/hotel.
The next day we went to Alpine Meadows, which was a worse resort than I remembered. The green runs were too crowded and the blue runs were too advanced. Plus, all the runs were very powdery, making it hard to turn because everytime I edged my snowboard into the snow, I would dig too deep, causing myself to fall. It wasn't such a good day at the slopes, but I had fun afterwards, going to a bar/restaurant called Jason's in Kings Beach which had excellent food (I got ribs) and a great environment. This reminded me of Buttercup Cafe the last time I went to Tahoe. I also watched Garden State, which was good but not great. Also, I got more comfortable with Elvis, their dog, while watching Garden State. That dog is probably the nicest dog I've ever come across.
Sunday was fun because Northstar was fun. I took the green Skidtrail and Lumberjack runs the whole day. These runs weren't crowded and were just the right incline for me to practice on. I learned to turn to toeside from heelside by first stepping my front toe down and turning my right shoulder back. This helped me turn a lot and in my final run of the day, I carved the whole way down without falling. Awesome, no? Yup.
